Where I Was Before

I use to be that woman who felt exhausted all the time and could not get to the root of the problem.

I blamed all the foods that were hurting me including the gluten.  I was the woman who tried all the supplements at random and detox formulas without knowing in what order to do them safely or that there was another more gentle way.

In the end I felt worse and more defeated.  It took me a while to find the right practitioner to guide me and then I decided to go to school and learn it for myself.

It's not all about the food.

I used to think it could only get worse until I learned to connect the dots and solve my own health problems. I would like you to feel empowered to do the same. One common saying that I have used is, “I feel like someone has taken the wind out of my sails.“ or “I feel like the plug has been pulled out on me.”. In other words, I am totally exhausted!

I connected my lack of motivation and energy to poor dietary choices. I learned that some foods made me extremely tired, especially when I ate too much of it. One of those foods was wheat pasta which is a common dish in my Italian family. Was I shocked to learn that! I changed my food choices and added some supplementation and super foods to my diet. Gradually, I began to see a difference.

I went to the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to learn more for my own health journey and to receive the credentials to educate others.

My ability to relate to you in this area and teach you the tools I have learned has given me the expertise to help you achieve a more balanced digestive tract and a healthier body.

WHO I AM NOW

Luana Flacco, Holistic Nutrition Professional

When I am not learning about nutrition, geeking out on marketing strategies or consulting a client,  I am a caregiver for my adult son who is on the spectrum and is learning to cope with life.

I can usually be found taking a walk around my neighborhood, singing my favorite worship or pop song, cooking in the kitchen, reading a self-development book, biography, the scriptures of the Bible, or watching a good movie with my husband.

I have two grown adult sons.  I have been married for 30 years to Jack Flacco who writes a blog for Christians at jackflacco.com.

I grew up in Nova Scotia but moved to Ontario in 1988. Most of my surviving family and relatives live in Nova Scotia. I love to visit there as often as possible. Oh how I miss the ocean waves in the summertime.

MY SPIRITUALITY

On a more personal note, I am a follower of the risen Jesus and it is my mission in life to show others that God is love and that Jesus is there for each of us if we just call on his name. He will answer us. He is my strength and life. He is the light that shines through me and He loves me no matter what kind of a day I am having.

I have been through some tough times but God has always seen me through and given me the strength to keep going and to be all that I am created to be.

Here are some fun facts about me:

Fun Fact #1

Some of my favorite foods I like to eat include:

· Berries

· Smoothie bowls

· Lamb

. Nachos with Guacamole

· Chocolate avocado pudding (yum!)

· Green salads

· Roasted sweet potatoes

· Home-made pancakes with berries and maple syrup

· Pumpkin pie

· Apple crisp

· Hemp hearts

· Chili on a cold winter’s night (funny title!)

· Home-made ice cream even dairy free! (Ice cream is a comfort food for me so you can see how dangerous that could be to my waistline or my blood sugar for that matter. One reason I eat it on special occasions only!)

Fun Fact #2

I was put on stage to sing at a very young age and won some talent shows, sang in church productions, home sing-a-longs, sang with a church dance band, for weddings, and at my dad’s funeral which was very difficult but I knew he would love that. However, even though I have sung on stage a lot in my past, I prefer to be out of the center of attention.

You could call me the “singing nutritionist” ha ha!

I come from a very musical family. My father wrote and sang many songs on the stages of the maritime provinces. My mother is a yodeler and met my Dad in the music business in Halifax. They both are honored in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nova Scotia.

My sister, Maria also is a very good song writer and loves to sing and play her guitar. My late uncle Ralph made a few recorded albums and CD's and was very well known in the Maritimes. My nephew Rob has his own band called Ruckus and has an amazing voice.

Fun Fact #3

I homeschooled both of my boys through high school. One is preparing for University and the other suffers from autism and is finished his formal schooling. I was also on the homeschool leadership committee for the Christian Home Educator’s Network also known as CHEN.

Fun Fact #4

I went back to college at the age of 49 and graduated with a certification in holistic nutrition at 51 years of age. I am a life-long learner.

Fun Fact #5

I grew up in the Maritimes but I lived in Texas for two years from the age of 19-21. I lived on a college campus in Big Sandy, Texas and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree.
